I was down most of the day, being grounded and not being able to walk to Sarria. I was thinking maybe I should go home.
But when I reconnected with Jeff Johnson, we decided to tour nearby Monasterio de San Julián de Samos
With 1500 years of almost uninterrupted monastic life, this Monastery, this House of God, holds the history of many peoples and men who have passed through it: (the ancient Suebi gave it the name: Samanos, place of monks) and who continue to pass through, for it is a route on the Way of St. James.
Jeff Johnson and I toured the amazing monastery and then treated three twenty-something kids to a glorious meal and conversation. Everyone is looking for something, esp on the Camino. I won’t go into the details but we had a great, deep conversation.
At the same time we gave the couple who owned the restaurant (off the main path) some hope and joy in their work. They knew the conversation was deep and left us alone for hours.
Now am looking forward to the next providential experience. I may try to walk again in a day or two, but not yet. I am in touch with my doctor.
