NOTE: In October of 2023 I did something crazy and signed up to walk the Camino. I became fascinated with the concept of pilgrimage and especially spiritual pilgrimage. So, last year (2025) I decided to walk a portion of the Camino Frances for a second time, feeling I did not approach it properly. I wanted to share what I’ve been wrestling with as I enter my 75th year.

The Camino is primarily a Roman Catholic pilgrimage, but I’ve learned, as a former fundamentalist Christian, a former Evangelical, and currently a member of an historic Black southern church, to appreciate the struggle for meaning and purpose in the ecumenical explorations of the life and times of Jesus.

One could say my life’s scaffolding has been erected from both the truth and untruth of organized belief. I will always be a sceptic and searcher, but personally believe Jesus defeating death gives hope for redemption and resurrection. I will continue to swap out existing framework for something closer to truth. Like the Bereans in the book of Acts we should all be diligent in our search.

The following articles and current diary entries allow me to process my thinking. Enjoy.

The Cruz de Ferro (Iron Cross) is the Highest Point on the Camino.
