Today’s early morning omen: A stork. When in Spain in 2023 I saw stork nests everywhere but no storks. From my window at breakfast I saw a stork overseeing the plaza of the cathedral.
The white stork symbolizes new life and good fortune (and even delivering babies!). Storks are known for their loyalty, returning to the same breeding grounds and partner year after year.
The other photo (also out the window at breakfast) is the Burgos Cathedral.

Today I only had two items on my agenda: Tour the Cathedral and see the Picasso exhibit also in the Burgos Cathedral.

The Picasso exhibit PICASSO: Biblical Roots was quite moving. As an adult Picasso rebelled against religion, “as he did against nearly everything” said the gallery brochure. By his upbringing and culture remained deeply Catholic. The exhibit has six divisions: Education, Maternity, Vanity, Gólgota, Veraicon, and Hope.
The Cathedral is overwhelming. I went through the audio tour carefully and took many photos. I will post a few of the photos but will not identify and comment on them at this time. Extremely limited on time.
My main “take home” concerns the images of Christ and his work. My religious upbringing is prohibits images of Christ although cartoons are allowed in children’s educational material. That view is so sad.
Many early pilgrims were illiterate but even for those today who can read, the visual interpretations are often better explanations of scripture than vocal sermons. I have more to say on this subject but must save it for another day.

First Light
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the world
Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from Heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God’s recreation of the new day

Light Morning Mojo/What Not to Miss, Memorialize
These will appear in the journal above.
High Point of the Day
By far, the Picasso Exhibit: Biblical Roots
Examination of Conscience:
In the past I was struck by the ostentatious presentations of paintings, sculptures, tapestries, and altars. But putting myself in the shoes of pilgrims in the 10th through 16th centuries many were illiterate, and tired, I could see hope the pilgrims received for the journey.
Guided Prayer/Thought:
Help me not to be too quick to judge the motives of others.
